What is a Notary?

As a BC Notary Public, I am able to prepare accurate and reliable legal documents. Most of my experience lies in the areas of conveyancing and mortgage preparation, as well as preparing wills and powers of attorney.

Other services a BC Notary can perform (but are not limited to) are as follows:

  • real estate transfers and conveyancing
  • mortgage and refinancing documentation
  • manufactured home transfers and mortgages
  • preparation of easements and rights of way
  • subdivisions
  • contracts of purchase and sale
  • builders liens
  • representation agreements

Notaries can and are obligated to give legal advice in areas in which they are authorized to practice.

Training for a career as a Notary Public involves an intensive, multi-phased program that can be undertaken after a university degree. After being screened for character, reputation, and integrity, suitable candidates are then admitted into the Notary Program. This program is currently offered in conjunction with SFU. Notary students graduate not only with Notary designation but also with a Master’s Degree in Applied Legal Studies.

The tradition of Notaries goes back over 2000 years – to the dawn of recorded history.  The Notary’s reputation for trustworthiness meant that documents retained a stable reliability throughout centuries of upheaval. A Notary’s commitment to you does not end once all the documentation is signed and sealed. You can count on your Notary to ensure that your interests are protected.
